Children & Young Adult Funding

Ways of Funding a Genie V2 in the UK

  1. NHS Wheelchair Services: The NHS provides wheelchairs to individuals who meet specific criteria. Assessments are required to determine eligibility and the type of wheelchair needed. The first point of call is to contact your local wheelchair services and see if you are  eligible for a wheelchair voucher.
  2. Personal Health Budgets: Individuals with long-term conditions or disabilities may receive a personal health budget from the NHS to cover the cost of a wheelchair.
  3. Charities and Nonprofits: Organizations often offer grants or assistance for wheelchair funding.
  4. Crowdfunding: Crowdfunding platforms allow individuals to raise money from friends, family, and the public for wheelchair funding.
  5. Local Authorities: Some local councils provide grants or funding assistance for mobility aids through social care services or disability support programs.
  6. Access to Work Scheme: This government program helps individuals with disabilities obtain the equipment they need to work, including wheelchairs. https://www.gov.uk/access-to-work
  7. Private Health Insurance: Certain private health insurance plans may cover the cost of a wheelchair or provide partial reimbursement.
  8. Disability Living Allowance (DLA) / Personal Independence Payment (PIP): Benefits provided to individuals with disabilities can be used to help cover the cost of a wheelchair.
  9. Loans and Credit: Financial institutions may offer loans specifically for medical equipment purchases.
  10. Fundraising Events: Organizing local events such as bake sales, charity runs, or community fairs can help raise funds for purchasing a wheelchair.

Each of these options provides a viable route to obtaining the necessary funding for a  wheelchair, depending on individual circumstances and eligibility.
